You know who I’ve always wanted to dress like? This homeless girl. Wait…it’s Lisbeth Salander? Even better. Now…can you somehow arrange for a cheap, international retailer to make clothes that look like they’ve been worn by the sociopathic goth so that I can buy them? You can? Perfect.
Thank God for H&M. Now, we can all dress like Lisbeth Salander. Unsure yet if they will offer piercings and tattoos in the stores. Maybe just in Europe. The costume designer from the film, Trish Summerville, has teamed up with the chain to sell a ‘Lisbeth’ collection inspired by the film and book character. Little did we all know (or did we?) that H&M is a Swedish company, which could explain this decision.
Some people, including sexual abuse victims such as fashion blogger Natalie Karneef, who think some of the clothes are objectifying and glamorize the troubled life of a sexual abuse victim.
Luckily, the head designer of the Divided department (a division of the H&M brand targeted to 15-25 year olds behind the new line) had a perfect response: “We don’t stand behind the violence or the harshness but the look is very cool.”
Very cool. Can’t wait to buy some distressed leather pants. Or steal them off a drunk tranny. Would be cheaper. Riskier, but cheaper…as in free. Excluding potential hospital bills. I’ve been spending a lot of money on Christmas presents, so I could use some free stuff.
